RES Registration (Historical Guide)

Historical guide: This page records my 2023 experience and the FormSG email-OTP process that was still used for the June 2025 examination. The process, fees and funding details below are outdated. Use the current RES registration guide to register now.

Course Provider

You can enroll for the course from any of the course providers.

I took an online course with Benchmark Realpro. They have both weekdays and weekends option. I took it online over 8 weekdays in 2023.

As of 2023, it costs $650, the cheapest I know, and it can be fully covered by SkillsFuture.

Examination

• 2 papers on 2 separate days
• 2.5 hours each
• 30+ pages
• 80 MCQs each
  • Section A: 60 MCQ (1 marks each)
  • Section B: 20 MCQ (2 marks each)
• 60 marks to pass (out of 100), no bell curve grading
• 80% fail rate
• Very tricky MCQ, sometimes with 2 correct answers
  • Must choose THE CLOSEST answer
  • Must be very sharp
  • Must apply good common sense and guess well
• Held 3 times a year in Mar, Jul, Nov

Stage 1: Registering for the Exam

The exam is highly sought after. You have to be FAST.

There are 2 stages to the registration. The grabbing is in stage 1, where you have to be fast to register for the 3,000+ available seats. The system is first-come, first-serve, so when the portal is open at 9am, it will be fully booked in 2 minutes 😱

Use computer with keyboard and open Email app/website (for receiving OTP later). The FormSG link will be activated at 9am sharp.

• Enter email first, and get the OTP
• But don’t wait; Go fill up the rest of the fields:
  • Name, NRIC, mobile
  • Copy-paste, or autofill
  • Select papers
  • Tick tick tick..
• Go to your email and copy paste the OTP, click verify
• Submit!

I did it under 2 min and got a place.

Stage 2

If you’re lucky, you will be able to register in stage 2. This is where you will pay the exam fee of $417.

The stage 2 registration must be completed within 30 minutes, and is a click once only link. You need to prepare the following documents (max 2MB each):

1. RES Course Completion Certificate
2. Highest Qualification Certificate (coloured scanned copy)

Reimbursement

If you’re an NTUC member, you can enjoy up to 50% funding (capped at $250 per year) under Union Training Assistance Programme (UTAP). Since NTUC membership is $117/y, it is worthwhile to join.

IMPORTANT: You must get the membership before the exam.

Thereafter, you can claim the funding within 6 months after the exam, even if you fail. You need to upload the exam invoice and the result slip in UTAP portal E-services. Select NTUC LearningHub Pte Ltd (Non-Upfront) as the provider.

For the course, you can either use SkillsFuture credits or reimburse under UTAP.
